BAITED BEAR HUNTS:
If you don't want to be one of the 20-30 or more in a large group setting and have maximum opportunity at mature bears, you should try our hunts. You will be one of 12-15 hunters max each week with your own log cabin. A "fresh" un-hunted area is hunted each of the 4 weeks. We have managed these sites and areas for 18 years and can assure you there is super "trophy" potential
We have 100 bait sites with treestands or blinds that consistently produce year after year. Our outfit is located in the most productive Black Bear area in the state, as the harvest sheets confirm each year. Maine has the largest Black Bear poplation in the lower 48 states and our area has the heaviest population. All baiting is done 30 days in advance and maintained daily when hunting.
We take bears from 150-500+lbs yearly. Most of our bait hunting is done from early afternoon to 1/2 hr. after sunset. Shooting distances for bowhunters will be 12-18 yrds., Firearms 20-75 yrds.. A low power-light gathering scope is recommended, open sights are fine. Our treestands are sturdy 12-15 ft. ladder platform type. You can bring a portable if you wish. Know your weapon and practice from an elevated position. A precise shot is a must, as a Black Bear is the toughest animal in the Maine woods. We average 90-100% sight opportunity rate and 70-90% success rate on kills of mature Black Bear.

HOUND HUNTS:
If you're looking for excitement try one of our Bear hunts with Hounds. While our bait hunts are a stand hunt, hound hunting is constant on the go action. The thrill and excitement of the hounds "striking hot" bear scent and the chase following is second to none.
We start this hunt early in the morning when scenting conditions are good. We follow the chase via 4 WD and the hundreds of miles of logging roads in the area. End up on foot going into the "caught bear". Bears are either treed , held at bay, or shot ahead of the running hounds. Kill selection on this hunt is very selective and strictly between guide and hunter. No sows with cubs or cubs, are allowed to be taken on any of our bear hunts.
The Maine woods are ablaze this time of year, with the fall foliage colors and hunters successful early in the week have the option to photograph, hunt coyotes, fish or just kick back and relax. We are limited to 3 hound hunters a week.
